I picked up a used Ruger Blackhawk 357 stainless probably 10 years ago and had not fired it except for the one range visit shortly after buying it. It is a 1976 and has the "Liberty" roll mark on top of the barrel. In the last few years open sight were getting harder to see and even thought of selling the Blackhawk since it just sat in the safe.

Last month I finally decided to break out the Blackhawk and fired a few rounds at 15 yards and then one cylinder full at 25 yards. I used an aperture device on my glasses and did ok with the Ruger - now it is going to be fired a lot more often as long as I am able to see the sights! I'll have to say this is the mildest to shoot 357 that I have ever owned.

Anyone else still like shooting single actions?

I absolutely LOVE my SA revolvers...absolutely GREAT for all around shooting enjoyment as well as for hunting...
My 6.5" Ruger Single-Six with both .22lr and .22wmr cylinders was my first handgun...still have it...still shoot it...still love it...
The best part is teaching my two sons how to shoot SA revolvers and talk about the differences over the years as to where guns have progressed from to currently...
As far as for home / hiking / personal-defense...I'd need a great more skill development before I'd make it a main one or CC one as an EDC...

    Near the big river.
Use my 2 Ruger Montado 45 Colts for shooting wood bees every spring. Load them with a small charge of fast pistol powder, wad, fill with rice, glue another wad in. Great fun up to 4 feet!!

Wear safety glasses, the rice can bounce back!!

Don't know whether my favorite is

    the .40

    or the .41

but I really like the smaller frame lighter weight revolvers.

There's a 6" barrel 1849 waiting for me to ream the chambers.

    .
I do wish someone would make a cartridge conversion model of the Colt 1847 like NKBJ has pictured.

    Cartridge conversion 1849: 32 S&W Short.
Less recoil than a 22, you can watch the bullets fly, it can penetrate multiple pieces of paper!

My favorite color combination is blued, color case hardened, brass and wood. I have a 22 wmr & 45.LC with that combination.

There's an unusual Uberti in blue that has been calling my name. No where near an authentic color combo. I don't know why I like it so much.

Minus the brass that sounds familiar. My early season deer combo shown. I love hunting with .357 when there is still a bit of green left. Visibility/range is limited so let's make it even sweeter. Although I don't use the cowboy rig. I have an old uncle Mike's nylon shiulder rig for it dad gave me years ago.

I love single action revolvers. I have several Rugers, ranging from .22 LR/WMR to .480 Ruger. I really like the Magnum Research BFR, I currently have two. And last but not least I have a few NAA Mini revolvers, the break top Ranger 2 is really cool. Good to see other people enjoy single actions.

What calibers are your BFRs? A BFR is on my wanted list but I'm not sure what caliber I want yet.

One is a 7.5" BFR chambered in .500 JRH with a .50 AE cylinder. The other started out as 7.5" 45-70 but I sent it to JRH advanced gunsmithing and had it re chambered to 50-110 WCF. It will also shoot the shorter 50 Alaskan. It has a muzzle break and a modified grip frame to help control the recoil. They are a blast.

Piggybacking on the SAA topic, anyone have recommendations on a source for a good starter belt rig? $100 or less, western-y, practical over flashy?

Go to EBAY, lots of stuff there in all ages and price ranges. I've picked up a lot of good pieces and assembled more than a few rigs with them.
