and yes there is a way to program them to be able to listen the local first responder freq. but if you hit the transmit button you will talk on another freq. thus avoiding getting in trouble for using that nonpublic freq. its a simple fix from within the software.

Do these come with enough basic instructions as to how to set up the CHIRP programming? Do they work without the CHIRP programming (as in out of the box to just listen to local bands?)
Assuming I buy the "good" cord of course, is programming pretty easy? (How about changes if I am in a different area?)
Also a link or point in the direction of basic licensing would be great. (I gt a basic lesson from an INGOer many years back but wanted to get the scoop again now)
Thanks for any help/answers!
oh good to know. i have not used chirp in a long time
dont think it was possible with the version i was using.
What model radio are we talking about exactly?
Hopefully its not the 888S. Chirp isnt playing nice with those now for some reason. (It checks all the boxes during programming upload, even if you didnt check them in your config. VOX ON, lo and hi voltage inhibit tx, battery saver, beep, etc)
