he's the last man standing because everybody else left like they were supposed to...they continue to pay for grazing rights yet he has been grazing for 25 years without paying a dime.

The federal government gives millions of dollars to "their" farmers. Three of my neighbors received about 1 million each. They are the richest farmers in the area. I can barely afford my ground, but the farmers getting the government welfare can afford to buy more property. The government picks and chooses the "winners". The guy in Nevada is not one of the winners.

For the record: I will not take any government money. All government farming money should be stopped.

Like they were supposed to? You make it sound like "they" were the good obedient robots.

For any of you who doubt there are ample number of government officers who would be more than happy to shoot you from ambush, for any reason if so directed, you need to rethink that. All the government needs to do is hang a label on you and the fully indoctrinated will be only too glad to execute you. After all you are a _________ (pick one or more: secessionist, racist, gun nut, anti-government, domestic terrorist, sovereign citizen, gun nut, militia member, trespasser, jaywalker).

sorry bros, cant completely side with either side. the federal government is in the wrong, but so is the rancher. he is completely mis using federal public land (your land) for his own personal commercial gain. the federal government has done some shady stuff in this deal also though, shifting of lands, selling of public land etc etc.

but the fact that this motherf'er thinks he can just do whatever the f he wants and use public property for his own financial gain is insane. they should have just levied back fee leans on his property, his cows and everything he owned and sold them all at auction. im 100% for the feds getting back the money he made off public property for free.

"that article makes no sense, other than clearly stating that Reid bought the land fair and square from BLM in accordance with Mining Law, why would need to give it back? "

Tell me who else can get "trotise land'?

It is my understanding that the land belongs to Nevada and the ranchers (originally at least) paid the BLM to manage the land. The blm doesn't actually own land just manage it. When the BLM tried to buy him out and run him off he stopped paying them and did their jobs himself. He still pays the county which is the actual owner. If the manager of a McDonalds decided that the restaurant is theirs and no longer McDonalds the McDonalds wouldn't be too happy.

no the BLM collects fees or taxes on the public nevada land so that they can do their jobs so YOU dont have to pay to make sure that this dude isnt destroying public (in this case state land under federal jurisdiction) property. just one day he decided that he was going to stop paying those taxes because he didnt like how the taxes were being spent.

how are you people not mad at this dude, he stole from YOU! (assuming you are a legal citizen and a tax payer)

He didn't steal anything. Your reading compression fails.

And Destro, don't you have a CNN Liberal to go fluff some where?

Take your mindless liberal robot puppet rhetoric elsewhere.

The BLM was collecting fees from the local ranchers supposedly to improve and manage the land. The bundy family had been paying for use of the land for many years before the BLM. Once the BLM came in the family continued to pay the fees. The problem came when they realized the BLM was not using the money to manage or improve the land, they were using the fees to buy the ranchers out they were supposed to be helping. At that point the buddy's stopped paying the BLM, why pay for yourself to be run out of business, they tried to pay the fees to the county but they refused the payments.
Pat this point there are many conspiracy theories going around about what exactly is going on. What is obvious is that the government is overstepping their bounds. This rancher properly used this land for many years, he tried to continue to pay his fees for continued use of this land, he himself paid for improvements and maintenance on this land so he could use it. Since the government could not buy him out or run him out they are now trying to forcefully remove him, they are stealing and auctioning his private property. How can anybody be supportive of this?

The land belongs to the United States, it is managed by the DOI thru the BLM. Ranchers paid money for permits to graze cattle on the land.
