    I'll skip Chicago, thanks.

    Wilding Videos

Once again, the only people reporting (complete with pictures and a bunch of video) about what has been going on downtown this weekend is the Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown blog:

    • It's been a wild holiday weekend in Chicago, especially in River North and the Magnificent Mile. CWBChicago estimates a minimum of 18 arrests between noon on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday related to mob activity, battery, and weapons possession.

A number of Mag Mile fight videos from the weekend were sent to CWBChicago. We've included them in this report.

Our team has identified four confirmed cases of shots fired in the Near North area this weekend—in the 500 block of North Wells; at LaSalle and Erie, and in the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive. Police are still working to determine exactly where the fourth incident occurred. In a low-water mark, an on-duty undercover cop lost his phone to a pickpocket on Michigan Avenue Sunday.

Police grappled with large groups of teenagers in the Water Tower area on Saturday and Sunday nights. Their efforts were snarled when the CTA apparently fumbled plans to send trainloads of kids out of downtown on express runs.
They have even typed up a transcript of scanner traffic, including:

    • Saturday 8:39PM — 70 or 80 teens coming off the Chicago Red Line. “Tell Water Tower to close their doors; otherwise, they gotta let ‘em in.”
    • Saturday 10:05PM — “Hundreds” running wild in the streets near Roosevelt Red Line station. The train from Chicago and State—which was supposed to run express to 47th Street—stopped at Roosevelt by mistake, an officer says.
    • Saturday 10:11PM — “I got a group of about 150 running into the Target” store on Roosevelt. "Start blocking these little *******s off!" Three arrests at Roosevelt and State. (the store was extensively trashed)
    • Sunday 5:30PM — “They're at Water Tower. Open arms, guys." "You got K9 that can come out here?"
    • Sunday 7:14PM — At Zara on the Magnificent Mile, a mob of female shoplifters just broke the door as they stormed out with merchandise.
    • Sunday 7:19PM — “Shut Water Tower down! They’re all comin’ in!” “I need Water Tower shut down. I got a bunch running toward Water Tower.” “Fun time’s over. Time to round ‘em up. Get ‘em all down to the Red Line.”
All in all, there's probably three full pages of transcripts which show a downtown completely out of control and a police department hopelessly outnumbered and undermanned.

Are these the "main areas" being referred to?

    More Apple picking.

Glad I avoid the touristy places when I go to Chicago (lived there for 3 years, still have friends there) but once they drive out the tourists they will move on to home-grown apple orchards.

The “packs” of kids take trains into the downtown areas inside the “loop” and attack in large numbers!
Why would a person even want to risk what may be a deadly encounter?

Imagine Police forcibly corralling youths onto trains and sending them south?
No charges or arrests just physically pushing them onto trains and closing the doors the the trains heading south once let off the trains the youth head east and attempt more crime.

The elite in Chicago have turned a blind eye toward the “thunderdome” that the city has become because it didn’t directly effect the elite class saftey. This summer looks to change this the story can only covered up to a point once this hits the national level the last gasps of tourism will leave the failing socialist city state.

Brad, I don't have to imagine. I was living in Chicago (downtown, Presidential Towers on Clinton and Madison) during the 1994 World Cup. The cops used cattle prods (first one I saw used outside a slaughterhouse) and shotguns to round up the stew bums and others who did not "belong" in the Loop. Lined them up and shoved them face first into the El or gave the hard cases bus tickets to Indy or Detroit.

If you stick to the main areas and are situationaly aware then chicago will be no different than Indianapolis for you other than more awesome things to do.
I'd stick to public transportation and if a taxi doesnt look or smell right (yes I mean smell) then take a different one.

We took the South Shore to the museum a few years back. 4 maybe? And once you got off the platform and under one bridge...it was fine. Even walked back to the train after dark. Would be much safter this time of year as its daylight so long. The station and that bridge was only place I was constantly looking around....but there was no one to be seen. I'd do it again too...the museum is nice and worth a trip.

The situation inside the loop is getting out of control with the “wilding” gangs.

Chicago’s Elite reminds me of the elite from the movie Soylent Green!

I haven't been to Chicago for years. I did, however take my son to the really cool museums when he was little. Used the South shore . Of course we always went very early and left well before it got dark.

The shootings and gangs are already spreading around the city. It isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but it is definitely deteriorating.

this thread reminds me a lot of the "My Mexican EDC" thread...if you need that kind of a rescue package (without actual weapons because you can't have them) why not just go the to local texican restaurant and call it good?

Meh, not hiding from the world, just making better decisions. Spending money in IL to feed their ****show, no thanks. Let them tank. I consider a day at the range with my kids here in IN better than anything that misbegotten state can offer. The only place I stop in IL is the rest stop so I can ***/**** on that state.

    Amen.

The passive-aggressive remarks we receive when this and similar topic arise don't have the desired affect me.
