I've not read the whole thread. I apologize if this is off topic or already covered.

On a "per capita" basis, what is the difference between murders in Chicago and Indiana's biggest city, Indianapolis?

I also wonder how the rate would compare to other cities like South Bend and Fort Wayne.

If you stick to the main areas and are situationaly aware then chicago will be no different than Indianapolis for you other than more awesome things to do.
I'd stick to public transportation and if a taxi doesnt look or smell right (yes I mean smell) then take a different one.

I will not go to Chicago or Indy unless absolutely there is no other option. Not worth the risk.

Well, when you've been raised that fighting back is "bad", and "contributing to the problem", you don't have many more options than "beg".

    I cant believe I lived :):
    Thugs killing mostly other thugs.
While I agree in part, the “thugs” are moving closer and closer to the “good” areas. Last time I was in Chicago, the Miracle Mile was anything but after dark, and Water Tower Place was a sea of thugs. Granted, we had no problems, but I and my family don’t look like prey, and further, we won’t be. The police presence was significant in these areas, so that MAY have been a slight deterrent?

Very true. The zombies are visible on the mile. Water tower mall always has my spidey senses going off.

I am unable to come up with one single reason why I would ever revisit Chicago. Kind of like my opinion of revisiting Kalifornia. I had just as soon go to a funeral.
