Even though some people may hate this, I'd be fine with background checks IF we, as private individuals, were able to call NICS. The fact that it creates an extra expense for any transfer due to having to go through an FFL is my reason for being opposed to this. I already do a bill of sale for any gun coming into or out of my collection, a quick phone call while the buyer looks over his purchase wouldn't hurt me.

Would you be able to point to any evidence that background checks have reduced gun crimes?

None at all. I realize now that I wasn't clear in my previous answer; I'm in no way campaigning for them, I'm just saying that it should be that way if we had to do them. I don't wanna see any more gun laws unless they're amendments to loosen the reins and restrictions placed upon our God-given rights.

And you can call me a pessimist, but I'd trade UBCs under the conditions l previously mentioned for NFA repeal if it came down to it.

What Rep Crenshaw said about someone else barrowing your firearm if you out of town, and one has to use it to defend themselves. What way other than registration would they know if own used their loved-one’s firearm?

I just searched and found who voted for it at the following link. Vote Tally for Roll Call Vote 99 on Bill HR8

No Republicans f on Indiana voted for it. I didn’t check on Democrat’s.

Thanks for the link. Andre Carson & Pete Visclosky were the two Indiana yes votes. No surprise there.

I was surprised to see there were actually two Dems that voted "no." One from Maine, one from Minnesota.

Not to go against the grain, but I've been in favor of this for years. To me it only makes sense to have the purchaser properly background checked when selling. Yeah, you can opt to do it now (if buyer and seller agree), but I do think it should be the standard. I don't like gun rights being dumped on, but I'd be OK with proper transfers for all sales.

Wow. Just wow. My head is attempting to understand the logic in these people thinking this is a good idea. Because it is not. HMOG we are doomed.
This is just more Chip Chip Chip Chipping away and people are laying down for it.

Sad to see this passed the House - hopefully the Senate doesn't let it go any further. I'm even more concerned about HR 1112 as I think that could keep people in a background check "loop" so to speak, for a long long time.

Well, they'll have to be registered by the owner or suffer the consequences... duh. I've heard registration leads to something, but I can't remember what it is.

Cars? I mean LEOs are always going by people's homes and confiscating their cars when people have their licenses suspended for life.

The scary part is how easily this passed the house, they couldn’t even get this done after Sandyhook. Every election from this point on is critical, the crazy emboldened socialists will round them, up no doubt about it, if they take control.

Sounds to me like you are saying don't dump on me all at once but a shovel full at a time is ok.
