Papa chuck got it today. Probably as large as 4 of the first one combined. He was standing up, I got him through the back.

Any idea how much that chubby bastard weighed?

An adult chuck goes around 12-13# in the fall.
    Some bigger, some smaller.
The biggest I've shot, put on a scale was 16#.
Took one considerably bigger (but no scale).
    Guess him at 20-22#

Have seen pics of 30 plus pound eastern chucks........freaks.

My wife thinks my 6 to 8 lb guess is low. I'm a bad judge, but I went out and measured the spot where he was standing on his hind legs and he was a solid 24 inches tall standing up. So I guess it's possible he was over 10 lbs. Wish I had a scale handy but don't.

Ahhh soft place in my heart for the .243 Win. It sure hits hard!

First real high powered rifle I got to shoot as a kid. My grandpa let me shoot. I later inherited it and smoked coyote and hogs with it out of state. Far as I know dad still has it.

Funny story one time a when I was a little kid my grandpa saw a raccoon out in his bird feeder and started explaining to me how he couldn't have it doing that and had to scare it off with the pellet gun the whole while he was pumping. He actually pumped it about 20 times without really realizing it and just shot it dead everyone was so shocked when it just hit the ground dead. Maybe not a .243 but it sure killed it.

The thought of posting this on Facebook entered my mind for a moment. A very brief moment. Then again, if I ever want to purge my "friends" of any with liberal tree-hugger inclinations, that would probably be a great way to do it! :D

Part of me says "Doooo Eeeeet!"

Then I realize, probably will cause more trouble than it's worth.

What is that? Perhaps a bullet hole in a fence rail???
    20180716_185105_zps5q3diglg.jpg

Why would someone shoot a hole in a fence rail? Remember, always be aware of your target, AND what is behind it!!!
Actually, Mr. Groundhog #3 bit the bullet tonight.
I already asked the owner, what if one of those chubby little targets is hanging over the fence rail? Apparently the owner hates the groundhogs more than he loves his fence rails. Note the downward angle of the splat.

A little overkill with a .243 and 100 grn bullets but... Very nice photography! LOL I hope the liberals don’t get too upset that the pics are not politically correct. Too bad!

Welcome to the red mist society.
    Two points.
    1. Mr. Hog didn't suffer.
    2. Problem solved!

I love the low caliber, high speed rounds.

Yep, a body shot with my .22-250 (40-55grs.) will EXPLODE inside one of these..Usually with a V-Max or Ballistic Tip will not exit.
The insides of them are cross between "Crème of Wheat" and mashed potatoes..DRT most every time...Bill.

Please tell me you didn't hurt the grapes! I've got a picture somewhere of a young whistle-pig that my dog "tree'd" in the grape arbor by the house. Little, young dude. Little punk was holdin' on fer dear life! All I could think of at the time was to get the camera!LOL!

Last whistle-pig I shot was with my .223, out my bedroom window. From the bedroom window to the neighbor's barn is 265 yards. I was driving by and the whole family was out munchin' on soybeans. I busted butt, got to the second floor, ranged the barn, and let loose on the biggest bastid I saw. A day later, the neighbor called me and wanted to know if my dog wanted a groundhog to eat!

I've never shot one with my 22-250, but I have splatted quite a few prairie dogs with it. P-dogs don't hold up well to a 50gr HP. The best cartridge I have found(for my 22-250 Savage) is a Hornady 50gr V-max.

    Not far from the tree
Saw the first groundhog i've seen in years on the farm about 110 yds from the house this w/e. Coyotes have been hard on them the last 15 yrs or so. I may get to eat a young one in the spring.

    If I'm sneaky.
