Well damn Sig stock just took a hit lol. And on the Smith 686 and model 66's mentioned I am a big Richard Marcinko fan (guy who founded Seal Team 6). They used stainless model 66's for salt water work as they would not corrode and highly customized Beretta 92's initially. They actually found the slides on the 92's cracked under high round counts and stress so the team worked with Beretta to fix that issue and ended up with basically custom 92's. And as a side note most 6 guys carried custom Emerson knives with Earnest Emerson giving Marcinko a custom CQC-6 folder.

Then as we all know they used USP's and HK45's quite extensively as well in addition to the 226.

I am with you about Marcinko. It is a damned shame that he got railroaded the way he did for doing his job well rather than polishing egos and knobs by not doing his job in order to make the incompetent look good.

There are a significant number of US Army Special Forces guys carrying Glock 19s for several years now, so this isn't that much of a surprise.

Who knows why they did it, whether it be for budget reasons or whatever. Having said that, I think the Glock 19 will suit their needs just fine.

I read a few posts authored by a SME currently active in Naval Special Warfare (NSW).

He's the one that "broke" the story a few weeks ago, as he was issued G19 holsters.

A few reasons why the G19 was chosen (per the SME):

    1) The G19 has been used by MARSOC and elsewhere in the Special Operations community for some time now.

    2) The G19 is lighter and smaller than the P226. However, it still possesses the same "firepower" (15 +1 rounds of 9mm). The SEALs carry a tremendous amount of kit/gear. The G19 sheds weight/real estate on a loadout.

    3) The Gen3 G19 was selected. They will likely be fitted with steel night sights of some sort.

    4) There will be no silly/unnecessary modifications (i.e., no 33-round magazines, no + extensions, etc.). The 15-round Glock magazines are likely to be standard. Keep in mind that pistols truly are secondary weapons for the SEALs. If the primary weapon (a carbine/rifle) is functioning, that is absolutely the go-to. Why carry an extra 33-round pistol magazine when you could carry another 30-round magazine of 5.56.

The aforementioned information is pretty much a summary of the "primary source material" I've been reading.

Now I'm wondering if their official snack food will be the Naval Orange? Look for an increased sale of seedless oranges in a supermarket near you.

No seriously I had also read the article and it makes sense when you have a "load out" every ounce counts. It is smaller and lighter than a 226 with the same amount of ammo on board.
I'm surprised it has taken them this long to re-evaluate their side arm.

I read that they finally retired the smith revolvers with hk 45c I think.

My cousins best friend is active duty SEAL...He came in for the wedding as best man July 4th weekend and I just couldn't get up the nerve to ask him whether that was true...

When it comes to the last remaining revolver in military use I am afraid I may not be able to handle the truth...:)

Rest easy, the USAF has a small inventory of S&W model 15's for training MWD's with blanks.

According to Larry Vickers and some other retired Delta Troops, they used the G22. They and the last instructor I had at Glock Armorers recert said that Delta had a special order of G22 mags in FDE, and that those were highly sought after, and that a very few had made it out of the unit.

All of this leads me to believe that Glock has been in service for quite a long time. Additionally they have several different hadguns in inventory and have leeway in what they use for the specific mission.

I am sure the special operators have been carrying what they want for decades. No ones know for sure as it is probably classified. Glock gets a extra PR point for this and that is it. Doesn't really affect the rest of us. We carry what we like anyways, Glock or not. Doesn't matter to me what others carry, just what works best for me or you.

Now we need the rest of the military to drop the Beretta 92 and embrace the inevitable Glock 19 perfection

With the Army in charge of the DOD handgun program (standard issue that is) unless there is a change of several folks and doctrine. It will be a LONG time if EVER if they get away from a standard issue handgun that does not have some sort of manual safety.

Absolutely! It will be navy blue Tupperware/navy blue Cerakote, with a Navy Seal logo pressed into the grip. The presentation model will have gold highlights on the logo which would be unacceptable on a combat gun for obvious reasons. It, of course, will be 50% higher in price for the standard model and 100% higher for the presentation model.

A detailed gold inlaid Trident will do that for production costs !
