January, and indeed the entire winter, of 1996-97 were quite a doozy up in my neck of the woods. Temps routinely 20-30 below and wind chills between 60-90 below. Even the Norwegians (Or “sad vikings” to us Germans) were complaining.

117 Inches of snow, with virtually none of it melting before the big flood in the spring.

Mint, lemon, oregano souvlaki skewers over a wood fire for Saturday's heat wave with roasted taters and...
What goes good with roasted taters?

I lived in ND in the 80s and early 90s. I'm familiar with what can be dished out in Bismarck/Mandan. Heck, my Dad still lives in Bismarck! I remember one morning walking into the Century High School (which I attended at the same time as Paula Broadwell nee Kranz, future mistress of David Petraeus) from the parking lot only to realize once I got inside that I couldn't blink because tearcicles were propping my eyes open.

    good times.

However bad the weather is big media will draw conclusions that it's caused by Americans.

Well, now, you see, simpleton, weather is not the climate. You can't draw conclusions about climate change and global warming from the fact it's cold. In fact, extreme temperatures are a result of man-made climate change.

...but in July, the any temp near a record IS caused by man-made climate change.

We just got a note that Rays trash won’t be running tomorrow due to the cold. Don’t think I recall that happening here before.
