The en masse bayonet charge sort of assumes both sides ran out of ammo at the same time.

Or if you retreat from Little Round Top, the confederates will sweep up over the hill behind Union lines.

Anyhoo, all this historical talk....using American imagery to "sell" communism was a theme of the 1987 miniseries "Amerika". Check out the red banners with Lenin and Lincoln...

So, it Mr Backwards-hat looking to drill the guy next to him in the face with his brass? He (Mr AR?) already has to fight with firearms being a lefty and now his buddy is sharing his brass up close and personal, too.
How would you like to be the guy to the right of the Mosin if he actually fired it?

    1. Real Trotskyites were a lot tougher (Ok, Jimmy Rivers wasn't but 99% were) than those depicted.

    2. They are Trotskyites. The Ron Pauls of the Left. The "movement" will dissolve back into their moms' basements as they have purity measuring contests.

Don't be so certain about #2. The recent AntiFa arrests have been of Communists and Anarchists in their late 20's to mid 40's. Those are not late Millennials or very early Gen-Z living in their moms' basements.

    Could be anywhere
I am expecting to see as many of them as I've seen of BLM and Antifa...zero...and I'm currently in D.C. If they actually showed up and tried to burn/loot my house for some random reason it would not go well for many of them.

These idiots are an issue in the few spaces they consider safe for their idiocy to thrive.

They are the "guns for me, but not for thee" wing of ANTIFA. Here are some of them.

This Rogue's Gallery is all associated with the Arizona and/or Phoenix Redneck Revolt and John Brown Gun Club. Noah Briggs is a past chair of the Arizona State University Student's for a Democratic Society (remember SDS circa 1970?), Fallon Leyba is the current one. Felina Rodriguez is (or was) the president of USAS (United Students Against Sweatshops), and -- get this one -- she's now a middle school teacher at Isaac School District #5 on what used to be the southwest side of Phoenix, Arizona in the 1960's and 1970's, closer to south central today. I wonder if they know about her Redneck Revolt activities?

These are all hardcore Communists and Anarchists.

Not always. It took 20 seconds to load a CW musket, and a lot can happen in 20 seconds. Sometimes it was "fire" and charge bayonets first, reload later.

We aren't using muskets any longer, and even in the Civil War bayonets accounted for under 1% of casualties. Bayonet training today is largely for morale building purposes.[FONT=&quot]

You beat me to it while I was dawdling around with it. The overwhelming majority of WIA and KIA were from the minie ball. IIRC, the next was direct canon fire using shot (solid projectile) and especially cannister. The standard bayonets of the era were about 18" long. Add that onto the length of the musket and you have a weapon that's not easy to wield very well except over open ground. Very difficult in a forest. Photos abound on line of Civil War troops marching at shoulder arms with fixed bayonets; gives you an idea of their length.

Wonder how a bayonet works on a riot sheild? Or if they'd even make it to the shield when they leveled a long gun at officers?

Not on any riot shield I've seen. Won't penetrate it. Some of the home made AntiFa shields might be another matter, but a modern bayonet wouldn't penetrate far enough unless you hit the arm or hand holding it. The former M7 blade is 6.5 inches long (original M16 bayonet) and the current M9 is 7 inches long. The OKC-3S currently used by the USMC in lieu of the M9 has an 8 inch blade. You'd do better by bashing the shield out of the way with the rifle or shotgun butt and then thrusting or slashing with the bayonet. Some riot shields will stop pistol rounds and some will not. They're primarily made to protect against rocks, bricks bottles, or someone swinging a bat, etc. Against police I wouldn't expect to live very long after taking a bayonet combat stance.

I almost killed my self during bayonet training. Bayonet course, wall, loss of balance, fall...it was all very colorful.

If it's the bayonet training and obstacle course I'm thinking of, going over the wall could get you seriously hurt if you don't do it correctly with the rifle muzzle down.

Was accidentally stabbed in the right shoulder with a M6 bayonet on the end of a M14. The rifles and bayonets were for ceremonial use although we didn't usually use the bayonets. With a bayonet attached, the M14 is 60 inches long (five feet). I don't recall whether the command was port arms or right shoulder arms, but when the yahoo to my right came up to port arms, the muzzle was at a lower angle than it should have been. I got nailed by about a quarter inch of the blade. The M6 and M7 were nearly identical in blade design. The pommels grips and locking mechanisms were different as were the lugs on the M14 and M16 rifles they were made for.

Some day it will be amusing to read about which agency had the most personnel inserted into the redneck revolt.
