    You did the right thing!

The promoter definately should of banned this mentally ill person and also should of contacted the police so they could have put this on his record. (possibly)

well sounds to me like he was a show hater and definetly out of his mind! you did good and there right he should have been arrested and i hate to say it the premoter might have said that the police would not do any thing becouse it would create bad publicity. On the other hand bad publicity or not the bad guy's should not get away with this kind of stuff in my opinion it turned in to a derect threat when he said ill stick you befor you pull the triger.

Glad you are OK. I would like to know what promoter this was so I know which shows no to attend anymore. Also it was great to hear what a great help the promoter's employee was, not really. I hope you remembered what this guy looked like so if you run into him again at another show you will be prepared. If you get a chance PM me with the promoter for this show, that is if you don't want to call the jack bag out.

I also will not tell which show this happened at because it was not the promoters fault and I dont want the show to suffer from any bad publicity at all so please dont ask.

I know you feel like you shouldn't say... but to be fair, the general public should have a chance to weigh consequences of attending a show where promoters opt to let this kind of incident go unchecked. (Even if you respond in PM only to the folks that asked.)

Yep. It's poor form to not disclose the name of the show, but I understand why you're doing so. The fact remains that a promoter decided to put money ahead of the safety of the show's occupants, and THAT is not a show that I want to attend.

A quick Google search will find the show, if anyone cares to look. :twocents:

First of all I'm very glad it turned out OK for you.

Of course hindsight is 20-20 but as others have mentioned, I would think distance and cover/obstacles would be the first priority. Acquiring your own weapon and attracting attention would seem a close tie for second. When you stand in front of a table full of deadly weapons all day, to hell with any rules prohibiting loaded firearms. I'd find a good CC holster so you don't have to worry about being separated from your weapon. You in no way over-reacted. If anything you were too reserved.

There is absolutely no excuse for stupid comments like that under those conditions. No promoter should tolerate it nor should you be required to.

Sounds like the Tipton Gun show. Tipton is full of whackos. I grew up there. ;)

Glad you are OK KL and I don't think you overreacted. I think the door guy underreacted, and I think the promoter is a douche.

Side note... They should have called the Tipton Police. They're probably bored and would have enjoyed something to do. (before you call me a LEO hater, I know many Tipton police personally and I really like most of them)

I dont think the promoter was worried about his money but the Insurance and the liabilty of me having a loaded weapon inside of the building. Noone knows for the sure if my weapon was loaded or not. THe crazy guy kept bringing that up to the promoter that I was int eh wrong for having a loaded gun in the building as to draw the attnetion aways from him and onto to me and it did work for a minute and then I said this is not about me but about you threatening me then the promoter was back on him. The show was over by then so the customer had to leave anyway but I would have felt better about the whole situation if the promoter had escorted the crazy guy up front and out the door. I do not want to mention which show it was since I have not made up my mind yet as to if I will ever do that show again. I do not want to burn any bridges yet. Please accept my decision for right now.

He laid the knife down and told me to draw and told me he would stick me before my gun would go off.snip

Frankly, if he were talking to me that is the point at which it would have become a "put up or shut up" moment for him, as I would have shot him unless he ran.

Sorry... if somebody set out to place another person in fear of their life, sooner or later they will pay the price.

Particularly since we are (theoretically at least) disarmed at the behest of the promoters, and the promoter has accepted responsibility and liability for our protection. If they are not going to perform their duty adequately, that's good info to have.

Wow, I am glad everything turned out ok for you, Knife Lady. I commend you on your reaction to this guy. Womens intuition kicked into gear when you felt uneasy around him. I think acted responsibly and I would never second guess a gut feeling when you feel threatened or wary. Reps to you Lady!

Joe, are you saying if you were in Knife Lady's shoes today there would have been a man shot at the Tipton Gun Show? :dunno:

Well, there would have been a man shot at whatever show she was at. At that point, I would have taken his threats seriously.

    Unless he ran away.

    Up to him.

I think you did right. I can see where the promoter was coming from, but that doesn't mean he isnt a douche for the way he handled it.

Others have mentioned it but here is a bit of real life experience to keep in mind. 1976 San Miguel Philippines, Beach Gate, Marine guard armed with 1911 is cut when he denies a local access to the base. The local tired to go through the gate and the Marine stopped him by standing in front of him at which point the local pulled a butterfly knife and cut him in the arm and stomach in the blink of an eye, turned and ran into the crowd all before the Marine who was already alert could pull his weapon.

So always be alert (you were) and best defense, distance. You did well in a bad situation. The promoter, not so much.

I hope you and Brad both stay safe, keep that story I told you in the back of your mind.

    What say you?

It is the promoters fault in that he did not take the proper steps to ensure the safety of a vendor or buyers that has paid him money to be there. As soon as he was told what the problem was the police should have been called.

Do I think the promoter handled this situation correctly and in my favor? Absolutely not especially when I had a witness and also when the guy admitted what he said but then played it off as a joke. I never did get the punchline cause there was none and it was not a joke to me at all so say the least. I dont want to mention which show it is as there are fellow Ingo members that are set up there as well even if they dont pay to advertise on here I am trying to not burn any bridges for them as well. They will have to make their own decision if they do that show in the future as will I. I just wish it had never happened but I do know that I am a strong enough woman to pull my gun and I also know that I would pull that trigger if need be. I think the crazy guy knew it also cause after I showed him my gun he put the knife down and was asking me to draw. Let this be a lesson to all that even at a gun show you are never really protected or safe and to always be on your guard and be alert. Yes I should have put some distance between and him and I. I am very thankfull it ended as peaceful as it did without any violence at all. It still weighs on my mind and it will for a long time I am sure.
