Why is that disappointing? Cause it was (and this guy) was a joke?
Ya know what's more disappointing ... Cop bashing to a cop.

I didnt know it was a joke.

What does cop bashing have to do with anything?

I saw the interview this morning on 59 and was surprised by the fact that they seemed to linger on the shot of his LCP for a while. This was not, however, the most concerning thing to me about that interview.

My problem about the story was that 59 decided to get the Guardian Angels involved as if they are the experts in community policing, or carrying legal firearms, or even just gathering to pass out literature. The GAs seemed to liken this "movement" to vigilantism, which I found ironic coming from that group. They were making the statement that THEY, the GAs, didn't think it was a good idea for "untrained" or "unprepared" individuals just walking around with firearms. Untrained how? Untrained with their own EDC firearms, or untrained as in the "training" that GAs go through to be in their little matching beret and t-shirt group?

I mentioned several months ago, when the GAs decided to make a presence here in Indy that there was eventually going to be a point where law abiding citizens would gather together and carry in spite of the presence of the GAs, especially since the GAs can't do anything to protect themselves or others. Unfortunately, because of the "training" and background of the GAs, they're not going to see this as a positive that ordinary citizens are willing to stand up and show that they're not going to be victimized.

I support the idea of going armed and handing out info. The actions of the participants need to be prioritized as 1) Hand out papers, 2) Answer questions, 3) Be polite, 4) Be a good witness, and 5) Protect yourself or others within the letter of the law. An optional 6) Ignore the GAs.

I hope it works out. This could be a step in the right direction.

IMHO: We have all heard the saying, "The road to hell is paved with good intent." While I certainly see all the good intent here, I think it's a disaster looking for a Broad Ripple to happen. I don't see it as effective either. It's kinda like spraying a kitchen for cockroaches. They "r u n n o f t" to another place in the house till the threat is over only to return once the insecticide has lost it's kill factor.

On a positive note: It could very well end up as a teaching moment for those who are on the fence of pro vs anti 2A. These fence-sitters just might meet some really nice people who happen to carry a gun.

The whole thing just smacks of a problem in the making though. There is safety in numbers and if groups like the Guardian Angels or someone like them, want to provide escort service from one point to another, I can see where there could be a benefit, but Open Carry Night in Broad Ripple just doesn't sit comfortably with me.

    Just my opinion.

I CC and have no issues with OC. It's perfectly fine by me to have OC events. This one, however, just gives me a bad feeling. I hope all is well and safe for them. Incident free, too.

An idea...how about trying to reach out to the bar owners in Broad Ripple, and see if you could organize some sort of escort service for those female patrons who would like to have an escort to their vehicle. You could provide the bar owners/management with a main contact number (cell) where they would call/text the bar/address/first name of the girl who would like an escort. Your group would dispatch 2+ escorts to walk her safely to her car.

    Thoughts?

My girlfriend works at a bar in Broadripple and at their bar the bouncers or other male coworkers walk the girls to their cars after their shift or the end of the night. Most bars there do this.

I said I was in, but after finding out this is not, as I originally assumed, an INGO event, and that this guy is probably, as strongly suggested by his Facebook page, an illicit substance user, and that this is a "just show up" event, I am out as a volunteer.

Would be cool to see it successful though.

    Since I already live there....

Tamara and I, both being armed, female and residents of Broad Ripple (well, SoBro), are likely to show up, maybe find someplace in the Village to get a bite of dinner. --But what he's calling "Occupy Broad Ripple With Guns," we call "A Normal Day." (And/or an Indy Blogmeet).

I dunno from nothing about the guy and do not plan to go hang out with him. Some young fellow with a Ruger carried like a cell phone, not a great plan but people have to start somewhere. Perhaps this will be a teachable moment for him, too.

    Your long awaited reply....

Thanks to those out there for your support and I consider your site a great resource for gun related information in our
    state.

With that said, I believe that there might be a lot of misconceptions and downright foolish back and forth on here concerning the event Occupy Broad Ripple (with guns). I'm not trying to be a leader of anything. I'm just another citizen, as imperfect as I am. I'm disappointed that there are some on here that nitpick on the most ridiculous of issues and put down
one of the best public awareness events for the 2nd amendment, that Indiana has seen, down. I'm glad you guys like my LCP.We are talking concealed carry for those unable and maybe unfamiliar with weapons in general. The LCP is a favorite among those who are inexperienced, I believe its the most popular back-up weapon in the world currently, can be used very effectively and it doesn't operate well with peas in it.

I change the way I carry depending on threat level and clothing.
On this particular occasion I had the weapon without one in the chamber and secured to my belt, covered by a suit jacket. How you carry is purely up to the user and I often train for carry in this fashion, which, despite exposed trigger, is very safe and effective for me for the particular threat level of a TV interview.

I'm sorry I'm not Charlton Heston, because I think thats what some of you would like me to be for you to be satisfied. I'm just another gun owner and rights advocate. If you'll see the feedback on our page and elsewhere, we have tons of support from average people, which is exactly who we are looking to reach. Many have seen through the fog and listened to the things I have said and written concerning this event, despite the media, inventing aspects to this event which do
    not exist.

After tireless research (I am sure) you have found images on my facebook. I did a long-term advertising gig for an herbal incense company.
I did not have a facebook and adopted the business page that I set-up for them. I'm not a drug user and I cannot control what a friend of mine puts as their profile picture. I'm not sure where whoever it was, was going with that, but your assumptions bare very little reality. I'm just a media contact and I believe I communicated thoroughly and clearly
    what our intentions were.

I hate to have such words for this fine forum, but I really do think that many of your concerns are misplaced and I sincerely hope that a much more polished version of this presents itself. I'm not perfect, none of our 120 attendees are perfect and I'm willing to bet that no one on this forum is either. This is what we have to work with, Ill gladly turn things
over to the Charlton Heston, that some one here want, if someone can produce a spokesman of that caliber. Until then, we will let the facts speak for themselves, the event will grow larger, and I will continue to work hard to make this a success.

I appreciate the great things that come from this forum but, I was thoroughly disappointed in the way some guys have approached this subject. We welcome you all to come out and enjoy the comradre, meet new friends and educate others on the issue of self defense. Thanks a million to the supporters out there and Id like to note that I never received/overlooked your member's msg to me on facebook, my account has been nothing less than exploding and I have a lot going on in my
personal life which has limited in the last couple days my ability to be on top of everything that goes on and/or all discussions
    concerning this event.

Hope to see you all there, happy shootin' hoosiers!
