Wrong. If the state acts in a way that harms the right of the voter, then the fed can step in. If the problem lies with the voter, then the onus is on the state.

State and local officials are charged with maintaining the integrity of elections and the integrity of the voter registration rolls is a necessary part of that. When they either fail miserably, or passively allow massive fraud, they harm the rights of voters whose votes are cancelled by that fraud. Here, potentially more than 1.5 million voters in just two California counties.

Votes cancelled by fraud are votes denied.

The chicago machine wrote the book on voter fraud. Doubtless other machines have their own variations.

When it helps Republicans win. Only then will they see it as a problem.
Yep, when have the Dems ever been concerned about the rule of law or the Constitution? It is about the accumulation of power at any cost. Once again proving how naive the Republicans are. They uncover wrongdoing and breathlessly wait for a valid response.

One of the talking heads was on one of the cable news channels, and defended the issue of voter fraud.

"You keep bringing up voter fraud. There have only been one or two convictions for voter fraud"

Convictions are one thing. Evidence of a problem is entirely different.

As this article indicates, the ACLU (and others) call requiring proof-of-citizenship in order to register to vote, "voter suppression".

It definitely "suppresses" the ability of non-citizens to vote, lol!

And, Mother Jones calls it "radical" and an effort to make it "much harder" to register. Well, yeah, if you're a non-citizen the idea is to make it impossible.

    :yesway:

Foreign nationals, dead folks, small children, fictional characters, cats, dogs, and horses should not be voting under any circumstances. The only reason we are having a problem here is that these demographics reliably vote Democrat.

I keep seeing this "proof of citizenship" term thrown around but I have yet seen it defined. What constitutes proof? SS card? Those are forged every day. Birth certificate? You can be born here and not be a citizen. It's not like we are issued citizenship papers we all must carry with us and produce when asked by the government...

There are those on this board who think we should return back to the days of only allowing land owners to vote or passing a test before you are allowed to vote.

I think this smells an awful lot like a false dichotomy. People are either moral and reasonable like you, or they want to return back to only allowing land owners to vote.

I think it's fine to take reasonable steps to ensure people are legal residents of the USA, and of the district in which they're voting. The time to prove citizenship and residency is when we register to vote. Then when we vote, we prove we are indeed the person who registered with an ID. Yes. Things can be forged. No system is perfect. I think the way Indiana does it is fine.

See, there is an in-between moral perfection and thinking only land owners and can pass a test should vote.
