I was of the understanding that our constitution explicitly forbids any governing body outside of the US government dictation US law. Even if we signed the treaty, the law could not be imposed in this country.

It was covered here before I believe if our reps sign the treaty is adopted by law under our constituiton. :dunno:

Think I'm right on this, but could be wrong it has happened before.

Thanks, however I realize that some avoid political discussion. If you have friends on INGO that do not frequent this forum please clue them in.

Treaties do become law however you can challenge the constitutionality of that law meaning the Constitution is still the highest law in the land. Of course no one has challenged the Hughes amendment since it became law in 1986 so no telling if anyone would challenge this.

The constitution dictating something doesn't tend to stop politicians very often. Do you recall the handgun bans in DC and Chicago? Our dear president supported them, and called them "constitutional". Thankfully, the SCOTUS disagreed.

Please, Use the phone, people! Your voice counts, form letters get ignored. Call these numbers now!

    Lugar:
    (202) 224-4814

    Coats:
    (202) 224-5623

Basic conversation should go as follows:
    1. The UN is trying to pass an Arms Treaty
    2. 30 Senators have signed a letter saying they promise not to sign any treaty that undermines the Second Amendment
    3. I noticed you have not signed!
    4. Please sign this right away

    UPDATE:

I just got off the phone with Sen. Moran's office. The list is now up to 37 Senators. Senator Coats is on the list, Senator Lugar is not. Senator Lugar's office has been contacted.

The UN "demands?" Come on over UN and see how well your "demands" work.
