I'd bet dollars to donuts there's another mini maniac in discussions with the Chinese to become the next puppet.

That has to just be a fascinating culture study. I'm fairly familiar with how the North informs their people and has them brainwashed into the Kim-as-divine thing, but I've never seen much about how the South views the North. Are they that raring to go?

Their military is. The South as a whole may not want to clean up the Kim's mess but it would be a good thing in the end. Well, not good for China who does not want a friend of the West on their border. They are playing the long game and still think in the end they will be the regional hegemon.

Maybe time to dust this off

It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from [STRIKE]Cuba[/STRIKE] the DPRK against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the [STRIKE]Soviet Union[/STRIKE] Peoples Republic of China on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the [STRIKE]Soviet Union[/STRIKE] Peoples Republic of China.

I see a lot of similarities, though. DPRK is essentially a client state of the PRC, just as early 60s Cuba was of the Sovs

If the PRC thought the nuclear hammer would fall on them, too, in the event of an EMP or nuclear attack by the DPRK they might drastically shorten that leash or do a little home grown regime change

I think we're all gearing up for the latter.

China announces they've learned of a "coup" plot, provides material support to defend the Kim dynasty... oh but wait... in the course of the coup, something happened to the ruling Kim... aw shucks.... well, as long as "we" are here, we will provide stability and the transition to a more stable socialist government.

Something more like that seems the most plausible to me at this point. They won't wait until our trigger fingers get too itchy.

That is likely the best we can hope for. The chinese would be better able to corral their nuclear scientists to discourage them taking consulting work overseas, too

Hopefully, after a few years to get the norks used to the idea, they could also officially end the korean war

While we're waiting, i would still like to see those two n

Alas, the USSR didn't hold billions of debt instruments issued by .gov.

Well, that would be one way to make the debt 'evaporate'..."The former PRC used to hold debt instruments, the PRC no longer exists, the RoC government does not hold that debt." Stupid policies solved, hopefully lesson learned (though I doubt it).

It probably went south from the vicinity of Singapore to transit the Makassar strait. That's exactly the route I would expect them to take.

This is the stupidest controversy ever....and with the rush to invent reasons to criticize Trump, there's plenty of competition.

All warfare is based on deception. -- Sun Tzu This is the same media that said Bush 41 was stupid for mispronouncing Saddam's name (it was intentional and a major diss to the Iraqi dictator) and thought "leading from behind" was both possible and brilliant.
