I chose a GSR when I went through the same process a couple years back. I have not regretted it one bit. I would like to try it with a red dot and see how that compares to the VX-2 EER I have on it now.

Castleton GM has a used one for $499 right now, btw.

The PTR-91 is a good weapon. Also, M1 Carbine might fit your home defense/truck gun bill...buy a new one from Inland so you won't feel so bad if it gets dinged in the truck.

I do like the .45-70 option (and have one) though that's more of an area defense weapon as opposed to home defense (unless you think you home defense shooting is going to be taking place outside) as it will go through every last wall unless you live in a stone castle. I think it would make a good crowd control gun with hard cast safari rounds that should go through about 20 rows at a time.

A Ruger 10/22 with a 3x9 QD scope, a bunch of Butler Creek and Ruger mags, and the remaining cash would go towards a pallet of CCI Mini-Mag ammo.

Tavor with a PA 1-4x scope should run you about $1600 if you do some shopping. Take the extra $400 and get ammo if you need it, or maybe a oil can silencer setup if you're feeling froggy.

    I'd go with a SCAR17.

Unless an LWRC REPR is sufficiently non-AR due to the gas piston and side charging handle, in which case . . . REPR.
