Not so much a solution for your stated problem but you said there were other issues in this relationship. Lifes too short!! My own personal experience tells me I pretty much hosed 23 years of my life "trying to make it work", that includes couseling etc. Your sanity is worth a hell of a lot more than you think! Take this for what it is, my two cents! Good luck.

Hey- before my overall message I'll tell you about myself and my own feelings about guns (before and after!).

Before: I generally was very nervous around guns, had no desire to own one, and was NOT going to have one in my home!

My fiance eventually began talking more and more about owning a handgun (neither he nor I had ever shot a gun).

Eventually, I simply told him that if he wanted a gun in our home, I wanted to know everything about the gun: how to shoot it, the safety features, how to load/unload, safety precautions etc. I wanted to know EVERYTHING so I'd feel comfortable.

My guy being the wonderful man he is (gotta give him his props!) offered to pay for he and I to take a basic pistol class (shooting and home safety).
We took the NRA class and....

AFTER: Guess what- I LOVE SHOOTING!

I now own a Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm, and am looking to buy a .22 Buckmark....

So- my opinion is that if you can get your girl into an NRA Class (both of you go together!) for basic shooting and SAFETY, this may help ease her discomfort about having a gun in the home.

A good gun safe/cabinet and good safety features on the gun would be helpful too.

Just some thoughts from a girl's perspective :) I guess I feel like knowledge helps to reduce some anxiety...

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Money

Is the money coming out of a family acct. or your own money? When I started prepping back in the 80's I tried to save a dollar a day out of money set aside to buy my lunches at work. I tried to just eat a little less and stick the spare dollars in a jar on the dresser. Now, my wife isn't a gun hater, but she is a tightwad. Since she saw me visibly saving up money out of funds that would otherwise go in my stomache, it took away any reason that she had to compain about how much I spent.

Explain that somebody has to be in charge of the safety and security of the family. The other spouse cedes to the expertise of the person in charge of that.

I am the expert in computer and all things tech. What I say goes. My spouse is the expert at running this house efficiently. What she says goes.

Someone needs to step up and be the person in charge of saftey and security.

You say your wife "hates" guns, which I take to mean she is terrified of them and thinks they are very dangerous. The only cure for any of the above, is knowledge. I have never met a person who was informed and experienced with guns that had a strong dislike for firearms. Fear and hatred can be overcome with education...this is true of all things, not just things that go boom. :)

+1! Have her take a class. Take it with her IF she wants you to. Education is the cure.

    Get Her Involved!

:patriot: Like some anti gunners Some women don't like guns just because they haqve been led to believe they are EVIL. Find some place to take here where other women Shoot. Heck Maybe INGO should host a ladies day at the range. Try to get here to an INDY 1500 where she will se other women looking at guns. Encourage her to handle them maybe she'll see one she likes. Or start her out with a .22. I bought an Xtra Marlin 22 rifle with scope just for my wife so we could plink together. While she wasn't anti gun she just wasn't that interested until I gave her that .22 and included her in my hobby, Now she wants her own M4 because my full size bushmaster too big for her smaller size. If you love her work it out, and maybe she feels left out when you go to the range or some thing.:ar15:

Some of the women I know hate guns and it is soley based on they are dangerous and they cause crime. You need to inform her of facts about guns and the facts behind what governments have done to un-armed citizens like Hitler for example. I'm single and honestly most of the women I know are gun fans they were raised in a conservative home.

Two questions I ask on a date
    1. Whats your opinion on guns?
    2. What?
Usually makes or breaks a 2nd date :)
