Didn't Ayoob state that shorter barreled pistols are inherently more accurate due to the harmonics of the short barrel? And that the G30 is Glock's most accurate pistol? I'll have to dig to find the reference but I do recall reading that within the last month or so.

This sounds familiar to me as well. I think he also stated a shorter sight radius was faster on target.

I’m only confused by the superine who now it seems is a shooter? The question begs, is he a sub-compact shooter?

You never know. If you go to the range and see a midget telling tall stories, you might have your [STRIKE]man[/STRIKE] individual! :):

I have a 27 and 23. I typically shoot the 23 better, but that's because I have a longer sight length and it's easier to handle the snappy recoil with the bigger gun.
I've never seen the test of the two guns in a vice (i.e. no human recoil variables like anticipating recoil) but I would guess that barrel length plays little/no role in the overall accuracy of the gun.
I tend to agree that the sub compact makes more practical sense for a consistent concealed carrier. The ability to put a 16 round mag in the gun is sweet. I always carry a full size mag with that rubber grip extender as a back up. I've only carried the 23 once, and was very conscious of the bigger grip pointing out of my shirt.

OK....this ends. If anyone is acting like a keyboard Ninja warrior it is you sir. Give us a break please.
This will be the only warning.

Kind of a shame that the marines didn't teach him any manners to go with his attitude. He doesn't sound stupid. Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. I love them for their ability to kill the enemy and break things. Just wish some of them were better at ID-ing THE enemy.

Thank you, CM, for helping to keep things on an even keel.

I'm that Marine/LEO friend Mr. Magoo and before you go off and say some keyboard warrior stuff, I literally just got back on this site today after 8 years, so I'll play nice... Explain to me the basic 101 for that with an engagement zone of 25 yds or less? I am an expert in rifle qualifications (4th award) and 2nd expert award for pistol... That's just Marine Corps military quals, not including my LEO crap I had to qual with either... Not even throwing around my NRA/USCCA crap either, not going there.... Anything past that reactionary gap/ unknown zone I am switching to a long gun as aforementioned... Backup to the backup son... Spending my time applying my experience and knowledge, with real world applications, multiple deployments/ops and 100s of hot pursuit calls as a rook...

Explain to me how I don't know anything again? I am not using my "side arm" as my primary go to 100% of the time... If they are that close, they are getting hand to hand mcmap or a kbar to the neck if they are one arms distance of me... Adapt, improvise, and overcome... One mind, any tool for I am the weapon.... I sit quietly to hurry up and wait for a response :)

P.S. He goes to Point Blank with me all the time, plenty of pictures to prove that as well, along with 25 yard shots easily and one handed... I am just a beginner for most people, I know people that make me look like a choir boy... A CHOIR BOY!!!

    1. Nice reading a post by someone with real-world experience, not just range experience: thanks for speaking up!

I have also heard the "shorter stiffer barrel" theory in addition to differences in lockup and RSA. I don't know enough to know who's right about the "why" of it.

OK.....I have in my possession a Colt Defender. This has got to be one of the shortest barrel 1911's in 45 ACP I have ever seen/held. 1 1/4"s long. I am going to apply some proper attention/love to the ignition control package. After I am going out to MCF&G to do some non-scientific testing as to whats what. I need some graph paper......you know.....for science.

I think Printcraft once posted that he mounted his front sight directly in front of his rear sight on his Shield so he could be sure he always had the perfect sight picture. I remember laughing out loud when I read that.

I am really not sure. I will have it down to parts/pieces tomorrow.

I will admit that fit/finish are better than I thought they would be. The trigger pulls off like a trailer hitch as I expected. It is a somewhat well made "Little" 1911.

That’s the old version, now you just JB Weld the front sight inside the rear notch equidistant to each side and even with the top.
