How did those before us ever make it thru life without Amazon? I remember going to Sears or J C Penny's on the town square with my mom when she would order things from a catalog. You were lucky if your order arrived within a month but no one stressed about it, they were just happy to be living life in the good ol days

Yep... "Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery" was pretty much the standard.

Prime video still makes it a value along with prime discounts and prime card 5% discount
Unless you don't watch videos and you do get 10% off on Walmart items and Sam's club prime membership gets free shipping and stuff is arriving from them in a timely fashion. And I get 5% cash back with my Sam's M/C.

I wouldn't pay for both that's for sure, but when the nearest wholesale clubs are over an hour away, hard to justify memberships

I pass an Amazon hub when I go to SPB and trucks are raining out of there all morning, I don't think they are short employees, just over promising. .. I've never had Prime and about a year ago stopped ordering anything from them. Probably 30% of what I order from Ebay, average possibly 2 items a month, is delivered by Amazon trucks.. I go out of my way to support local stores even if I pay a little more. Sounds like they aren't delivering on their promises and for me adding to the wealth of the richest guy in the world just rubs me the wrong way.

I buy local on everything that's feasible but I've never had a problem with Amazon. I get it when I'm supposed to, never had a bad driver, and they've never not had what I was looking for.

Recently I turned to Walmart and Chewy to get things in a timely manner.
Mrs. Itchytriggerfinger wasn't real happy about the penis rocket shenanigans and ordered a bunch of stuff from Wal-Mart. Half of it was canceled 2 days later and everything else came in staggered over the next 6 days except for the one thing she actually needed right away and it took just over 2 weeks.

It's called capitalism. Keep up or go bankrupt. Walmart would sell more if they got rid of the $35 minimum shipping many stores could keep up with free shipping.

My wife works in an Amazon warehouse and the biggest problem is staffing in the warehouses. The one she works in only has about 40% of the staff they need. She transferred from another one last year and it was in about the same situation. They have plenty of drivers but not near enough people to fill the orders.

Did Indiana stop the extra $300 a week for unemployment yet? I also heard that people that got on food stamps are getting about 10x more than normal. A lot of reasons for people not to work out there all thanks to Big Brother.gov

Our of curiosity, went and checked our Amazon orders.

Range of 1 to 3 days from purchase to delivered for the last several months. Most are 2-3 days. I have a couple of outliers I did not count in that 1-3 range. They are specialty items bought thru Amazon but not Prime. We are still within the advertised delivery window.

On the flip side, my wife had some clothing delivered yesterday that she ordered in June. They were thru some small mom-and-pop outfit (not Amazon). The package has been "in transit" for well over a month.

Not only amazon, but any vendor who uses that "Mail Innovations" system where one company like UPS takes it to the Post Office, and then the Post Office brings it to your house, has been terrible. UPS direct to the house is reasonable time, and USPS direct from the vendor to the house is reasonable. The blended Mail Innovation service is almost like they are trying to make each other look bad.

Yes, Amazon Prime has been getting slower for better than a year now. I just don't order time sensitive needs from online vendors. I always new that the amazingly fast delivery times were too expensive to maintain for long. How could you next day deliver a $4.00 product on Sunday for free and make any money?

For a merit based shop running high volumes, easy. Its just another day. Its only expensive when unions make it into a special day and demand premium pay.

All of a sudden my Amazon Prime orders are taking almost a week to arrive. I can barely find anything with the option to ship next day or even two days. I placed an order Wednesday and it is not coming until Monday. I placed an order today for an item and it is not going to arrive until Friday.

It's almost enough to make a girl want to try getting along without them.
I still get all my stuff within 2 days...next day more often than not. Are you ordering items fulfilled by Amazon or by third party vendors? Or is it a mixture of both? I only order Amazon fulfilled products which has served me well.

It probably has more to do with how popular an item is. More popular items will be stocked in more warehouses, thus decreasing time for delivery.

I bought an item yesterday from amazon which will be delivered Wed. It was sold and shipped by Amazon.

    Yeah...

I also remember spending an entire Saturday bored out of my mind as I was dragged around by my Dad to every hardware store in town testing vacuum tubes from our console TV. Then helping him load that heavy MF'r into the truck to take the TV place... Then having no TV for 2 weeks... Then just having to buy a new TV anyhow.

No one was "happy" about any of it as I recall. Today we'd just click the button and the new TV would appear the next day.

Joke is on them. I order whatever I needed for $1 and then $34 of canned goods. Then they get to pay someone to haul around 20 pounds of soup to my house "for free". Around here, that usually means same-day delivery too. So a local person in my community picks the stuff off of the shelf (that someone else local stocks), puts it in bags, and physically drives it to my house. There's no possible way Wally make much on it.

As I said upstream, I try to make it hurt for them as much as possible. If it's not canned goods, then it's motor oil or something else insanely big or heavy.

I try to do the ones fulfilled by Amazon, but sometimes there is no choice. Then I don't mind waiting longer.
