Another day on the lake catching some Bass. All 12" but still fun. Tried out my new fish finder. Never used one before, still figuring it out. Tested several new mods to my yak too. Tackle organization, anchor trolley and leashing equipment.
Took the day off of work to kayak fish Yesterday, decided to head out to Destin Pass and paddled out to the West Jetty. Current was a bit strong pushing me further out towards the Gulf so I made the worst mistake ever, I threw out my anchor. It immediately caught in the rocks and I capsized...
Finally after 3 years of looking I finally found the kayak I wanted, for the right price.
It's only 9' long and weighs less than 50 pounds. Perfect for those spur of the moment trips. Took it out today worked very well. Got a little wet but that's to be expected.
Few fish from last...
I haven't had much time to turn, or do much of anything, since moving from Alaska to Florida and having our second child. However, I got some free wood the other day and decided to spend some time on the lathe.
These two are Alaskan Birch that I roughed in Alaska 2 years ago, finally finished...
Well we started our long journey on Wednesday. We left Anchorage at 3pm and made it to Tok, AK around 9:30. We stayed at Gateway RV Park for the night. The roads were horrible lots of frost heaves and too much construction, but we made it.
Day 2 we drove to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory...
Well we decided to camp this weekend in Seward. Knowing it would be a busy weekend I decided to plan ahead and make reservations at Millers Landing. They had one spot available so we booked it for Friday and Saturday night. We loaded everythin up and headed down yesterday morning. Of course we...
I was finally able to get a few more things done before our 3 week trip/relocation from Anchorage, AK to Pensacola, FL in July. I installed Firestone Ride Rite air bags a few weeks ago on my truck. Today I installed a 5,000 BTU A/C in the camper, built some drawers for the basement area, and got...
Well when I'm not hunting, fishing, hiking or shooting I do a little woodworking. Right now my shop is limited to a 1 car garage in our rental house on Base. It's a little crowded but when we move back to our house in Indiana this summer I'll have my 26'x26' garage back. I make bowls, platters...
I've been turning bowls like crazy for a local knife maker. He gives me $50 a bowl but the decorative bowls I make I can get $100- $150 each. I bought my lathe 2 months ago and absolutely love it.
My lathe
Some bowls and a serving platter
Everyone knows that the Economy sucks, right? The question is, why does it suck? What could have caused this disaster? Well here are a few reasons I believe it is the way it is.
Greed... It's everywhere, and will always be there. From the CEO's of big business to our Politicians it is...
Went out to my test site on Base for a few hours. The temp was mid 20's and cloudy, as usual. Decided to wear my old Military clothing instead of my Berber Fleece. It worked pretty well. Base layer was thermal bottoms and just a t-shirt top. Mid layer was the fleece liner pants for the...
My wife and I played hooky from work today and decided to do some hiking. Didn't go out too long, but was able to practice/teach fire making and try out my new pac boots. Everything was wet so teaching my wife to make fire was a bit difficult. We were able to get one going thanks to my cotton...
Got some new gear and decided to try it out. Took my new Cabela's Scout Pack and it worked perfectly. I was able to carry everything I needed and still had room to spare. It rode good and was very comfortable. Total weight of my pack was 20 pounds. The high temperature was 27 degrees, but as...
My buddy and I took a trip out to Buffalo Mine today on his 3-wheelers. The trail head is about 45 minutes North of Anchorage. The trip started with me pulling the starter rope off of my ATV, so it had to be pull started the rest of the trip. This was the first time I had ever used a 3-wheeler...
Finally had a chance to get out and do some hiking. Headed out yesterday evening and returned about an hour ago. It was a bit cold, 25 degrees, but my Berber Fleece from Cabelas kept me very warm. I made a crude debris shelter as well. Ran into a few moose hunters while out there and seen a...
I'm fairly new to the site and don't really know any of you, but I was hoping to get some info. My wife and I have been stationed in Alaska since 2008. We have been sheltered from the economic mess, but find ourselves facing it soon. We still have our home in Otwell, IN and will more than...
