Anyone of my fellow Lafayette INGOers remember the article in the Journal & Courier where the LPD Chief was talking about how "highly trained" his officers were and how you serfs need to be as well trained as the police?

It was Boxing Day, I think? Anyone remember that snotty little lecture?

"Still, Lt.Phillips says the case illustrates how police face a dangerous job every day,no matter what they’re called to investigate."

Yeah....might depend upon who is covering your 6.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers were responding to a complaint of criminal mischief at 813 North 9th Street, Apt. 2. Police said while officers were inside, information was received about a person wanted on a warrant at the apartment. The homeowner was cooperative and allowed officers to search her apartment to show them the wanted person was not there. Inside of the residence was a large dog. confined to a cage and the resident verified this for officers before the officers entered the home.

Three officers then entered the apartment to look for the wanted subject. During their search, the dog broke free from the cage, causing the officers to flee the apartment to avoid the animal. As they fled out the door a bullet was fired from one of the officer’s firearms. The bullet traveled through the apartment door and struck Officer Butler in the back. Police said she was wearing a protective vest, however, the round struck her above the protected area.

Animal Control currently has the dog, according to police.

Didn't know the Lafayette Police Department recieved advanced training from the ATF in tactics such as shooting dogs and being completely incompetent

Love to but J&C blocked me long ago.

It is the story on December 26th about 3 of the 4 homicides in Tippecanoe County being self-defense. Flannelly is going on about how being need to be as highly trained as his officers, "responsibility" and the usual clap trap from police brass and guns. Mr. Google should find it.

Ok, found it, Cob, had it saved somewhere else: https://www.jconline.com/story/news...tte-homicides-appear-self-defense/2349222002/

We shall be watching, Chief, to see if LPD owns it.

“That’s your individual responsibility to understand," he said. "That’s a decision that you’ve made, and you’ve got to fully own that. It’s not someone else’s responsibility to teach you when exactly to use it. You’ve got to know that it could be any situation.
    “That is a tremendous responsibility.”

    Chief Patrick Flannelly (irony emphasized)

Projectile traversed body at angle, may have glanced off spine, officer suffers no impact from this and was ambulatory at scene. Sternum and clavicle unaffected.

Right lung affected but this can heal without surgical intervention.

Prognosis: very good chance of recovery.

If I read that right, sounds like the officer was not shooting at anything? A Negligent discharge while running with finger on trigger?
