Ok I just found out about this from a part time helper that has a seed territory up there. I posted in the break room. Creeped me out here at the house. Carrying my 40 back to indy with me.

Semi-interesting story about how this all affected my week...

So, I was doing what I do every fall and visiting high schools. It just so happened that I was in the rural part of Illinois just west of Morocco, Lowell, etc. Soooo, pretty much every school I went to had to question me extra hard and escort me around since they were keeping an extra careful watch. No problem, I understand. Apparently, my 2011 Ford Fusion (rental for work - I don't bother buying new - and I like 4 wheel drive) and my black skirt is easily confused with a gray/white pick up and green jacket. :D

Anyway, at one of the schools in Illinois there were several students upset because they had to wait inside instead of their usual outside spot for the bus to take them to the career center. They then decided they would like to go home, grab their guns, and then go on a man-hunt 'cause they'd rather be outside. One kid said they weren't allowed to have guns in Illinois, and the rest jumped in and explained to him step by step how to get his FOID and buy a gun. :rockwoot: The kid getting the instruction then said he'd feel better with a required safety course, but then the others replied that it was their right, not a right after they took a safety course.

+1 for the kids at the rural high school.

-1 to me for not having Appleseed brochures with me. I'm adding those to my work bag this weekend.

I did make sure to not stop too often in rural places, though. I definitely can't carry on the job, and it makes me feel vulnerable. I guess I could try to deflect the bullets with my pocket knife. :dunno: (Which I also leave in the car when visiting high schools as to not get in trouble with the metal detectors in the more urban schools.)

    They STILL haven't caught him???

& every hour that goes by is another hour the case gets colder and colder.

+1 for the kids at the rural high school.

Does give me some hope that one day IL could be a free state but alas for eveyr 1 rural kid that knows what is RIGHT there are 1,000 urban kids that depend on the "golden fed milk" to tell them what is right. :faint:

It seems the Indiana State Police have a professional sketch artist on their staff (at least he's still not in grade school art class).

The REASON this one looks better is because the sketch was from the farmer that talked face to face with the gunman before he got shot and not from people that just saw him at a distance. I mean wouldn't you remember the person that just shot you easier than someone that just saw someone shot?

Haha - some of my friends think so. When I was at the STL Arch last weekend, security had to spend time examining my pocket knife closely before allowing me in - and then they had trouble closing it. But then they had a musket demonstration in the museum, so that was pretty cool. There are a ton of guns in that place!

I would just like to see more news stories that read: "Gunman attempts shooting spree, gets shot by several armed citizens."

Have you lost your mind! That only promotes vigilanty justice and besides you might hit a poor child who might be out on the street. THINK OF THE KIDS!!!! ;)

Agreed that the rural kids got it together. My wife's students typically have some sort of assignment that combines artistic creativity with their personal interests. While the schools may have an anti-gun policy on the books, many of the kids bring in gun related work that consists of shotgun shells, rifle casings, targets, photos of deer they have harvested over the years, etc. My wife hangs these things up on the walls or dangles them from the ceiling in her classroom. None of the administrators have given her any grief for this and its been going on for several years in her classroom.

Her school system was the only one locked down for 2 days but it seems like the kids took it in stride. The shooting happened not too far from our property and it seemed like the kids and the adults were more vigilant. The farmers seemed to all take a few more precautions out by me, more of them packed a gun on the tractor, and double checked the gun in the truck type stuff. But overall I think they considered the shooting as one that was more of an ambush.

I think you are confusing witness recollection with artist ability ... they are unrelated. My point is that Will County needs a better sketch artist not a better witness.

I mean if you had an eighteen year old relating the physical description of his dad (someone he has seen almost every day of his life) to a five year old "sketch artist," it might look like the first drawing that was released.

If you had another eighteen year old relating the physical description of a person he saw briefly across a parking lot to a well trained artist, it might look like the second drawing.

Anyway, it looks like they caught the guy. :rockwoot:
