Out of curiosity, why was your wallet in your brief case instead of oh I don't know... a back pocket? Not victim blaming... just curious.
When visiting a penal facility, it is much easier to get through screening if you leave everything you do not really need to have with you for the visit in your car. I will routinely leave my wallet with everything in it in the car, taking in only my state employee ID and whatever papers I need. So, maybe that is why Kirk had the wallet out.
As a retired ISP guy, I would hope that professional courtesy would cause them not to take the wallet while stored in my vehicle.
