We used to cruise these dust collectors. We haven't rode those in a couple years.

Is that a 650 Triumph trophy engine on the chopper.

"Traffic is down, but speeding is up"..... as it should be when the roads are operating at a fraction of capacity.

Speed limit on a 4 lane road during the middle of rush hour : 70mph
Speed limit on a 4 lane road during the the middle of the afternoon: 70mph
Speed limit on a 4 lane road during the the late evening: 70mph
Speed limit on a 4 lane road during the the middle of the night: 70mph

Speed limit on a 4 lane road during the middle of the King's "shutdown": 70mph

It all makes about as much sense as most of state's mandates.

FWIW, my regular commute over these past several weeks has been cut by at least 30%!

I've made the trip to Bloomington twice since this started (almost my only time out of the house actually) and both times people seemed to think the 55mph signs meant 50-5. The Firebird does not abide by such shenanigans.

There was a time when my shop was filled with Trophy's Bonneville's and BSA's. Lucas was a learning curve as was Wentworth threads. Good lord I screwed some stuff up over that.

Everyone drove them because it's what they could afford. And they look good chopped up.

I wonder if it's just the Nashville/Btown area? Full of "legally" impaired and old people what won't listen to STFAH?

It's getting hairy here in Fort Wayne too. You can't buy a ticket here. City boys pretty much quit writing tickets some time ago. Drive however you want.

The 'rona make the future unpredictable, but give me a holler with the specs if you decide to part with the Ninja. I'm a Kawasaki guy that likes to go fast.

    Pics?

Sorry I just checked back in here. I’ll have to upload a couple pics tomorrow if I think about it. She’s got the seat off and hooked up to keep battery cycling right now. Gotta get a front tire before I can get it back out, been killing me seeing all the bikes out the past week. It just hit 14,000 miles before i put it in the garage last year, changed the oil before the last ride and always change it again before the first ride incase any condensation got in it. She’s my baby, I doubt I’d get rid of her but as I get older a nice cruiser does sound tempting.

What are you riding over there??

There's been an unmarked trooper up under the 469 overpass on 69 (just south of Dupont), I've come up on him doing 80 twice and thought I was a dead man. Nope, he must be interested in really big fish only.

That said, I really haven't had any problems in town. For the most part it's far safer.

My own personal experience and observations after being in traffic every day for eight to ten hours a day?

This has given the nincompoops, scofflaws, bad drivers, and self-important me firsters more room to bloom and truly reach their full potential as hazards to navigation.
Per capita the stupidity level is about the same. People still pass me on the right fiddling with their phone while I'm trying to get over so they can beat me to a red light and sit there longer.

465 is now their personal road. The Ronald Reagan Parkway is pretty much a drag strip now.

The general driving atmosphere is like everyone is thinking "Woo Hoo! God is dead and we can do whatever we want".

Since I've been working from home, I've not had to be on the interstates much for the past month. I have noticed a huge (and nice) reduction in traffic on the surface roads. It doesn't take me 5 minutes to cross the road to get my mail now since the schools have been out. I still don't know why we even bother with school buses for the school near me. The buses are empty, but there is a solid line of parents driving their kids to school. I'd bet that one, or maybe 2 buses would be ample to handle the number of students that actually ride the bus. They don't need an entire fleet for 20 or 30 kids. Seems like a big waste of money to me.

I was on my way home this evening and a zoom-splat went by me at at least 85-90mph on 465. I don't know if he didn't notice the marked car or didn't care. He caught up to some traffic and started weaving around looking for a way to get between some semis. Rookie me would have probably chased him. Current me figures the only person he's likely to hurt or kill is himself and then State can take care of the paperwork. I never even flipped on my lights.

I predict a very high likelihood of at least one traffic fatality in Marion County between now and the sun coming up.

The % of knuckleheads driving dangerously has been way up lately and especially today.

This is the truth. As someone who rides a zoom splat (lol) i try to stay in one lane when there’s traffic around, just because the more I change lanes the more statistically I am to end up as a stain on the road... and people aren’t very aware of a 2,000 pound vehicle, let alone a 400 pound bike. Like I said I do occasionally open her up on an empty straight stretch, temptation gets me and I’m a weak willed man at times, but i *try* to be smart about it, if you can be smart opening the throttle.

One night we was coming home from covered bridge festival. Had a bike blow past us on the shoulder, had to be well over 100. I was joking with my wife and said driving like that he must be taking death to an appointment he’s late for. We stopped and got gas, got some food and got back on the road. Saw the fire trucks and ambulance lights, sure enough when we drove past there were busted pieces of bike parts scattered. I don’t know that it was the same guy, couldn’t see the actual bike anywhere, but if I were a betting man...

I hate to see it happen, but if people are willing to blow past traffic on the shoulder, drive through the center of cars on the interstate (I’m for lane splitting, but only at traffic lights where the bike risks being rear ended, not driving down the highway) or do wheelies and act a fool, they have to know the risk. That’s the kind of stuff that makes people hate bikers, and it gives us a bad rep with LEO and regular people.

Ok, it’s late and I’m done ranting now.

I don’t know if the % is up, or if they’re just more obvious now that they’re easier to spot :): but you guys have more experience with this than I do. I don’t have the patience for that.
