I was in the market for a baseball bat a year ago. They are freakin' expensive. Seriously. There are decent firearms in the classifieds for the same amount. Or LESS if you buy the bat new.

If you don't disable the pit on the first swing (which you probably won't). good luck. Pits (among a select few other breeds) are not necessarily intimidated, as much as inspired, by being challenged like this. Once he locks on....

Also since this is a thread related to walking a dog how much sense would it make to carry around a baseball bat around town???? If you are going for something that big why not a Katana while we are at it. I hear if you carry a Katana and wear a fedora all the women will go after you too.

For walking a dog something like a pepper blaster makes more sense as there is allot less chance of it comming back at you. Another fun idea would be an "old school" "hush puppy" a new Ruger MK4 pack lite would be great for that build.....

We all know the combination of the Fedora and katana is why BBI is constantly having to fend off hot chicks.

Well, I'm not at Liberty to Warn you about it.

Let's just say my first Appearance at INGO was a bit of a Trial.

There were allegations of persecution and general ill will. And those were from the people who welcomed me. :)

That pisses me off to hear that happened to you and your dog. Insist that the Pit is put down.

The Pit apologists were quick to jump to the dogs defense and talk about their wonderful gentle beasts but where will they be when it happens again, or to a child.

True, most pits never attack and all dogs can bite, but to say it's bad owners leaves out that the traits these dog's ancestors were chosen to create the the breed. Loyalty, brute strength, aggressiveness, and fearless persistence when attacking. These traits are genetically hardwired into the breed. They were created to be weapons with a brain, not pets.

A poodle can bite too obviously, one, twice, maybe three times... but it doesn't have the instinct to chew your face off or crush your trachea. Pit Bull Myths - Dangerous Dogs - DogsBite.org

I have no dog, in this fight .....

Here is a couple things to think about .....

    1. Should we exterminate a whole breed, because of the actions of a few .....

Think back to WW 2, and hitler, and who he tried to exterminate .....

    2. Should all pit bull owners, be required to have insurance ?????

Again, just a couple of thoughts .....

Should we have a thread on just this discussion ?????

Is there a consensus as to when a given dog's aggression warrants euthanasia? Is there a threshold that warrants it before someone or another animal get hurt?

I vote for the threshold being set at, "if it ever barks", which, hopefully, includes all dogs.

So glad to see all the pitbull owners quickly defend their lovely dog breed.

Wonder how many small children will have to be attacked or killed before "they" see the light...

Any animal crosses the street to attack my cowdog and I will drop it.

I do not nor have I ever owned a pit bull, although a friend's pit thinks he is my assistant alpaca herder (most aggressive action rubbing noses with the alpacas). All examples with which I am familiar are non-aggressive aside from those specifically trained to be aggressive in tandem with criminal activity. I am sure examples exist which have been trained to be aggressive by owners who think that possession of a mean dog somehow enhances their personal plumbing. In the end, I have not seen evidence of the breed being inherently dangerous.

As for any animal attacking your dog, I agree, terminate with extreme prejudice!

My dog was bitten by the next door neighbor's Wire Haired Terrier while on a leash. The neighbor lady thought her dog was friendly with other dogs. Luckily no damage. I always carry pepper spray and EDC. I didn't have to use either in this situation, but I've had a large aggressive dog on a leash want to attack my dog so badly that the owner (a powerfully built man) had a lot of trouble keeping it controlled. In that situation, I was prepared to shoot the animal if it got loose, because of the extreme behavior. Pit Bulls aren't the only dog breeds capable of attack, but they are very powerful.
