Brass cleaning solutions for ultra sonics

I have tried 3 different solutions. The Hornady One-Shot brass cleaner seems to work the best. I use a 10% solution of Simple Green diluted with distilled water to clean 5.7 brass and it works fairly well. The homemade recipe I used was vinegar and dishsoap (don't remember the porportions)...

I got to come home today: Tale of the double charge

Glad you are OK. On the erratic chronograph readings I have seen some similar readings and discovered that the chronograph was too close to the muzzle and was being affected by the muzzle blast. I always verify the chronograph by putting either a factory load or known handload through it...

AK's are "cheap" or "junk" compared to AR's

I stopped caring what other people thought of a firearm (or anything else for that matter) that I chose for myself. If I saw value in the item, it filled my needs and performed as I desired, then it was good enough. I admit that I don't have any love for AK's but I don't have any hate for them...

Anybody seen a Tavor collapsible charging handle?

I seem to recall someone on the bullpup forum mentioning such a handle but it may have been a wish list item. I don't think this currently exists but someone may very well be working on it. If one does become available you are most likely to read about it there first. If/when one does get...

      Compressed 9mm loads???

I have used 4.7gr Unique to load 124gr FMJ 9mm with an OAL of 1.163". I have not loaded any 115gr 9mm so cannot offer any input on that. Out of a 4" barrel, that load gave me an average velocity of 1062fps. As you noted, Unique is quite filling but is a good powder and functions in 9mm very...

I`m Eating My Words: I`m now A Glock Owner

I have tried a number of holsters including the Blackhawk Serpa, Bianchi clip on, Bluegrass hybrid IWB (similar to the Crossbreed), and most recently the Remora which is IWB and no clips. I have settled on the Remora for the G19 as it is comfortable and can be positioned anywhere you want...

I'm just too busy to start

I like it and it is only a necessity for me to achieve the most accurate ammo. A very long time ago I worked for a manager who encouraged his supervisors and engineers to attend the Franklin Time Management course. After attending, he asked for my feedback and I told him it was an excellent...

      DPMS ?

I have no idea why DPMS gets a bad rap as I have always had good luck with mine and they offer a good value for the money. I had one with the A2 front sight that shot very well but traded it in on an M1A about 3 years ago. Last summer, I purchased a DPMS Oracle as an 'investment' gun just in...

      Arkansas School District Arms Teachers

This was one of the topics on one of the local radio call-in shows this morning and their broadcast area includes Clarksville, AR which is about 25 miles west of my location. This isn't very scientific but, judging from the callers responses, there appears to be overwhelming support for this...

At what point did you start reloading?

I think most of us start thinking about reloading to save money and I was no different. We do some basic economic evaluations and see how much we can save per round, then estimate the number of rounds to recover the cost of whatever reloading equipment we are considering. We fully expect the...

      308

If I were buying new today I would go for either a Savage or Tikka T3. Both have great triggers that are adjustable and in your price range.

      scar 17

The SCAR 17s is my favorite semi-auto rifle for the following reasons; Reason 1: [/IMG] and Reason 2) [/IMG] The above 5 shot groups are with military surplus 147gr DAG 7.62x51 (1996 lot) fired from 100 yards. Target grid size is 1/2". Support was bench using a bipod and a...

      lead smelting

An old bullet caster told me that prior to pouring his ingots, he soots up his ingot molds with a candle. The lamp black acts as a release agent.

Questions on Hornady LnL AP and Dillon XL650

Thanks - that is one of the many threads I had read on the subject over the past few months and it does have quite a bit of useful information. My buddy that has the LnL has had it for 4 years and recommends it highly. He is pretty pretty picky about things being just right being a mechanical...

      FN Five-Seven magic bullets?

And yet another internet myth is born - watch out 45 ACP fans, another death ray caliber exists!:rockwoot: I chronographed commercially available 5.7x28 in the FsN last fall when working up some handloads. If interested, these were the average velocity results; 40gr SS197SR - 1662 fps...

Thanks - BTW, the Forster Coax press you sold me works great and I am keeping it.

Questions on Hornady LnL AP and Dillon XL650

I have decided to get a progressive press due to the volume I am shooting and reloading 350-500 rounds per week (multiple calibers rifle and pistol combined). I am currently using a single stage press and those pistol cartridges are becoming tiresome. The cartridges I intend to load on the...

Bad experiences on the shooting range

This past Friday, I was at a private gun club range and a father showed up with his 5 year old son and grandfather. This was the boys first time at the range. The father put foam earplugs into his son's ears (doubtful that they actually fit properly in such small canals) and the line went hot...
