I think there are two main points with a .22 handgun as a defensive weapon. (1) Often times it is the sight of a gun that will scare an attacker into retreating. Nobody wants to get shot, so seeing a weapon, even a small one, pointed at your chest tends to trigger the fight or flight response...
I completely agree. I've never understood the argument that teachers and/or students shouldn't be allowed to carry. If they have their permit and are allowed to have a weapon on them in the store, on the street, and in a movie theater, why not a school? Is the concern that, by crossing the...
Any time someone tells me they're looking for a 9mm carry weapon, I always suggest taking a look at the M&P Shield. Small, lightweight, and reliable--though you will sacrifice capacity if you're coming from a Glock.
I really didn't realize people we venomously opposed to factory sights. Granted, I'm not doing a lot of shooting at great distances, but I've never felt my Shield's factory sights have been any disadvantage at all.
Always one in the chamber. If I draw my weapon, it is because I truly believe I am seconds away from being killed. Racking the slide requires two hands and 1 - 2 seconds. I can't guarantee that I'll have that either of those when I need the weapon the most.
There are very few people who know I carry. I've just never seen an advantage to telling people. I've only been asked once why and I simply responded that I do it because if I ever find myself in a life or death struggle, I won't have time to wait for the police.
I tend to be hesitant when it comes to pawn shops. That being said, as long as you feel confident in your ability to identify problems with a weapon, you should be good. As for the sales people, they'll probably have some basic information on weapons in the store, but nothing that you couldn't...
Pointing any gun causes a "chik" sound. A particularly bad one I saw recently was when the camera followed a round that had been fired from a rifle... well, apparently the round gets expelled out the barrel, casing and all. Who knew.
Good luck choosing your handgun! It's a big decision, so take your time. Not sure about where to rent (just moved here myself), but if you get the chance, take a look at the M&P Shield! It's a fantastic little shooter.
Like others have said, most fear surrounding guns comes from a lack of understanding. Really, if you didn't understand the platform, it could look very unsafe. Not saying it's right, but I understand why someone could be nervous.
Personally, I would never carry a weapon that wasn't ready to...
Thanks for the responses everyone! I finally tried to submit a blank forum so I could see what errors came back. Turns out, the only check it runs with that section is to see if you or your place of work is in Indiana. Thus, if your address is in Indiana, it doesn't check your employers and...
Hey folks! I just moved to Indiana and was terribly disappointed to learn that my Utah permit is no longer accepted since I'm now a resident here. I started filling out the application for a handgun licence online and was quite surprised to see a section for employer information. Now, I...
