Thanks for all the great feedback.
Ultimately, I do agree with JetGirl that unless I get a more comfortable gun, I'm probably not going to practice with it as much as I should, which is certainly a problem if I want to rely on it to protect me. I made a newbie mistake obviously and chose a...
That all makes sense, but I'm still worried about accuracy. As it is, at 7 yards in calm, relaxed conditions with a stationary silhouette target when I am taking my time, I can only occasionally hit the center of gravity . . . the rest of the time the shots go off all willy-nilly. I have tried...
A few months ago I got a S&W 638 as my first handgun. I selected it for how lightweight it is (and thus how easy it would be to carry) and its size (it fits my hands comfortably). However, after taking it to the range a couple times, I've discovered that it kicks way too much for me. Last...
I've considered whether it would be better for Tellers to allowed to be armed. However, I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea. Statistically speaking, the vast majority of bank robberies involve one robber, one Teller, and no one else knows what's going on until after the robber has left...
I started watching that video a couple days ago, but I couldn't finish it. As soon as the dog started crying, I had to stop. I assume the yelping dog was the Welsh Corgi. Having a Corgi myself, this was just unbearable.
What kind of monster shoots dogs in these situations? A Welsh Corgi...
Glad to see my friendly suggestion was so politely accepted. That said, I wholeheartedly respect your position. One of my great frustrations with the job, however, is how non-understanding our customers can be at times, so I'm just offering a perspective from the other side of the Teller line...
I'm working at a bank right now as a Teller. A couple of weeks ago, a man came into our branch open carrying. I didn't even notice it, but I heard about it after he left; the other Tellers were freaking out at the sight of his pistol, even though he had done nothing wrong. We were talking...
Anyone know of any other ranges in Evansville other than Strictly Shooting? A friend and I were going to go this evening, but their lanes are apparently closed for maintenance.
Got my LTCH today in the mail just as I came home from purchasing my first ever handgun (S&W 638) . . . it was perfect timing! I submitted the paperwork on January 25, so it took about 8.5 weeks.
Well, I just took a trip down to Kentucky and bought my first revolver. I looked at the used and new revolvers, handled a couple .357s and .38s and ultimately decided to go with the S&W 638 (.38 spc +P). I liked the weight, the size, the trigger, and the price tag.
I looked at the Rugers...
Ah, okay. The .327 did appeal to me there for a moment for the variety of rounds it could fire, but that doesn't help me much if I will have difficulty in finding any of them. So, unless I find out there is a plethora .327 magnum friendly ammo here in Evansville, maybe I'll just save that one...
Now I haven't heard much about the .327 magnum. Is it a pretty accurate round? Is it less intense than firing a .357? Since I don't own a gun yet, I haven't been looking at shelves to see what's available. Are the .327 mags, 32 H&R mags, and the .32 S&W affordable and, more importantly...
I'm not really "set on revolvers" . . . I believe I would be happy with either a pistol or revolver. I know the pros and cons of each and I'm just leaning more towards the latter. Now if I was out shopping, couldn't find anything I liked in a revolver and instead found a good deal on a pistol...
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll check out the Rugers and see if I can find any good deals in the used cases.
Since a couple of you mentioned, I will say that I have been to the only shooting range that rents guns around here that I know of . . . I tried several pistols, but they only...
Hi everyone. With the possibility of my LTCH coming any day now (submitted January 25), I could use a little help selecting my first handgun. I'm kind of leaning towards a revolver for it's reputed reliability and ease of use, but as a gun newbie, I have some questions.
First questions are...
I just sent off for my LTCH a handgun yesterday and I know it'll likely be several weeks before I hear anything back.
My dad, who got his LTCH in the mail Saturday, wants me to go to a range down here in Evansville that rents out handguns, which is great cause I want to try out a few...
