The guys involved were security? They were the hired security of Rand Paul or the venue? That is not my understanding.

As for the lady, yeah she is a pain. Sure. No argument.

But she still has rights and from what I see here, the guys who put/held her down are in trouble for violating them. Even if they meant well.

I guess my point is, don't push through security and event organizers to ambush a political candidate from behind as he exits a vehicle and attempt to "give" him something. I can't defend that aggression.

BTW, nice to see you hanging around the slums again! It seems like it has been a while. Good input as always, and, I must admit to playing a little devil's advocate here. You have to keep it fresh. :):

The upset I have is that while I was shaking Ron Paul's hand at one place, some other supporters were helping to sink his son another another place.

Furthermore I am upset that people are not learning a lesson here and so I am fully expecting the next group to take this up to the next notch of incivility and slowly increase in accepted violence. In that game the 3rd party and right lose. Either by fulfilling the stereotype of JBT/Nutjobs, or by making lawlessness acceptable.

Lose/lose all based on getting peeved at some pushy college lady trying to be petty. I just don't see any win here at all.

    Again, with friends like these...

So, you would have let her deliver whatever it was she had to a political candidate, allowed the picture, and just hope to all civility that her intentions were good?

I would let her? Yes. Would she get to put up her petty little joke? Sure. Could Rand file restraint against her or use his own security next time? Yep.

That is Rand's choice, not mine.

The assumption that it is my decision, that his campaign centers on me stopping this one threat, is way off base unless she has a knife or gun.

When I went to see Ron Paul, I went with an Appleseed flyer in hand, hat and T-shirt on and with my usual EDC.

Did I get stopped or checked by any security? Nope, he did not have any. Did I force the flyer in his hand? Nope, he looked way to tired for it and I just did the kind thing and went handshake only. Was that kind of access refreshing? Yes it is.

And will that access end? Yes. It might happen if the other side get too many points with antics but that is unlikely because antics are childish. It will definitely happen if Rand's supporters create another scene borne of over-reaction.

Frankly, they will distance themselves from the last guys who is open to the public even knowing the risks that brings.

Let Rand take care of himself and avoid the kind of help that will cause him to point directly at you and say, "I don't know that guy!"

(not you literally, but I could see it of a few I know... )

P.S. Slumming? No, playing hookey from work for another few minutes then back to the game...

ah yeah, Chris Mathews likens this to Germany in the 30's.

New MSNBC talking point: This Rand Paul incident is reminiscent of 1930s Germany Hot Air

Good point on the access. I hope you had a good time hearing Ron speak. Good night.

NPR said she had a concussion today. I was flipping through the stations on the way to work, the music I like the rest well......... I don't think she hit hard enough to be even close to a concussion but they spun it in that way on the short news briefs.

Saw her briefly in a tv interview. Didn't look like she was concussed.

Well let's be honest here. If this was a Rand Paul supporter at a Conway event open carrying a 1911 and Conway volunteers did the exact same thing, this forum would be up in arms.

But it is probably easier to pick on an unattractive woman who belongs to a political movement we don't agree with.

If a Rand Paul supporter had charged through a crowd brandishing a 1911 and Conway volunteers shot her, I wouldn't have a problem with that; she would have constituted a threat (albeit an overt one) and would have deserved it. I see no material difference in the Ron Paul event and your hypothetical situation; the truth is, the woman was creating suspicion and no one knew what she intended to do.

I also note that the MSM hasn't mentioned the woman protester who had her injured foot stomped on by an SEIU member while protesting at a competing Conway rally.

I'm sure the SEIU member, in his own mind, thought she was a security threat. That, and the fact that she wasn't seriously injured, completely justifies their respective actions.

And I'm also pretty sure that woman's foot wasn't, to quote the pejorative liberal media's term, "stomped" on. Which makes it totally OK!

Also I'm trying to find more information about the story involving the woman who's foot was "stomped" on, and I can't seem to find much. I'm likely to believe that the probability of someone accidentally stepping on someone else's foot is much higher than accidentally stepping on a subdued protester's head.

I only saw a bit of the struggle on tv, but it looked like she was struggling pretty hard with at least two men trying to control her. I might have used a foot to hold her down, myself, if I couldn't get a good come-along hold on her.

Well the guy didn't exactly get a good hold on her with his foot, perhaps he should get her to apologize to him for being so slippery.
