      Are there better times of year and stores to watch for clearance sales on jars, lids and caners? They seem to be offered seasonally (summer) and become harder to find as the vegetables mature. We have found it is best to buy early.

      +1 It is best if the fridge does not have a mechanical latch. I have also read about people keeping there mil surplus powder in a freezer to retard the powder breakdown.
