Pics or even a short video would be very helpful in diagnosing the issue.
for me - if the safety goes straight up then your safety or top cover or both have been majorly messed with.
I have a Czechpoint VZ.58 pistol that will eventually get the SBR treatment, and though I have yet to shoot it, love it!
parts are harder to find for some things, but it's a cool piece.

You must also factor in the reliability of most 5.56 rifles.
if you want small fast and accurate in an AK get 5.45. Skip 5.56.
Harder to find and use magazines.
more expensive magazines.
Reduced reliability.
For my "AK" set all the rifles are 5.45 - and I've never seen any advantage to buying...
It's the lightest, thinnest and only mount on the market that can guarantee to be 100% directly over-bore.

While the WASR I known to be a great AK, it's no Krebs.
It will go bang every time you pull the trigger and it will do its job just like a Krebs, but I would be pissed if my Krebs gun shot 4moa at 100m.
the WASR is not a bad rifle, the Krebs is just better.

Flexing does indeed help things - one reason ill most likely never own a milled gun. But flexing is not a tolerance, it is a material property and primarily manufacturing cost savings one at that.
